Objective of this HLO Training
The objectives of the helicopter landing officer (HLO) training is to equip the delegate with the initial knowledge, understanding and skills required to perform the role of Offshore Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO) safely and effectively. By the end of the training with RCES the trainee should be able to:
- Communicate with the flight-watch, the pilot and the other radio operators and HLOs.
- Give the pilot clear to take off signal.
- Gives the pilot last weather forecast and clear to land signal.
- Supervise and control helipad crew.
- Weigh passengers and freight.
- Supervise passenger and freight movements: giving the green light to passengers to embark or disembark, showing them the safe ways and perform/supervise loading or unloading the freight.
- Provide the pilot with updated manifest.
- Ensure to display the safety video induction or when necessary conduct the safety induction to passengers before each flight.
- Supervise flights following by regular radio contacts or SkyTrack monitoring.
- Capable to analyze and evaluates meteorological information to determine potential hazards to safety of flight and to select the most desirable and economic route of flight.
- Computes the amount of fuel required for the safe completion of flight according to type of aircraft, distance of flight, maintenance limitations, weather conditions and minimum fuel requirements prescribed by federal aviation regulations.
- Delays or cancels flights if unsafe conditions threaten the safety of the aircraft or passengers.
- Monitors weather conditions, aircraft position reports, and aeronautical navigation charts to evaluate the progress of flight.
Training Duration:
The helicopter landing officer (HLO) training has duration of five (5) days classroom training. This includes classroom presentations, discussion, exercises and role plays.
